Best Camera Brands 2026: Which Brand Should You Buy?
The brand you pick decides your lenses for years. Here is how the four biggest brands differ, and where to read more.
With mirrorless cameras the lens mount matters as much as the body. Lenses outlast bodies, so choosing a brand is really choosing a lens system. Each brand below has a full guide with every current model, honest pros and cons, and links to buy. Not sure where to start? Take the 2-minute camera quiz and it will recommend specific cameras from every brand.
Sony
Sony's E-mount has the widest lens choice, including many third-party lenses from Sigma, Tamron and others, which usually makes a full lens kit cheaper. The lineup runs from the A6700 and ZV-E10 II up to the A7R VI, A1 II and the global-shutter A9 III.
Pick Sony if: you want the most lens options and the best chance of affordable third-party glass. Read the Sony guide.
Canon
Canon's RF-mount cameras have strong autofocus, pleasant colour and capable video, from the R50 and R10 to the R6 III and R5 II. The catch is lenses: third-party autofocus lenses for Canon's full-frame RF mount are limited, so Canon-branded glass tends to cost more.
Pick Canon if: you value colour and handling and are happy to buy Canon lenses. Read the Canon guide.
Nikon
Nikon's Z-mount bodies, such as the Z6 III, Z8 and Z5 II, share the EXPEED 7 autofocus system and tend to offer a lot of camera for the money. The lens line-up is excellent and growing, with a smaller third-party selection than Sony.
Pick Nikon if: you want strong autofocus and value in a full-frame body. Read the Nikon guide.
Fujifilm
Fujifilm's X-series APS-C cameras (X-T5, X-S20, X100VI) are known for film-simulation colour and hands-on dials, and the GFX line adds medium-format sensors. It's the pick for people who care about the look and feel of the camera as much as raw specs.
Pick Fujifilm if: you want great out-of-camera colour and a camera that's a pleasure to use. Read the Fujifilm guide.
